 Homosexual 'Marriage'

On August 30, 2007 an Iowa judge struck down that state’s 1998 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), ordering the Polk county register to immediately begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.  Just as in Minnesota, Iowa’s lawmakers have repeatedly blocked efforts to pass a marriage amendment bill that would have allowed voters to decide whether their state Constitution should be amended to permanently protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

This is the second time that a DOMA law has been struck down by an activist judge (the first case being in Washington state).  Minnesota legislators who are blocking the Minnesota Marriage Amendment bill have claimed that this measure is unnecessary since Minnesota already has a DOMA law.  But this is clarly nothing more than political rhetoric.  Consider the fact that 22 of the 26 states that have passed marriage amendments already had DOMA laws on their books.  Also consider the fact that state lawmakers introduced several bills in the 2007 which provided special legal status to homosexual unions and would have incrementally legalized homosexual 'marriages' over time.

Minnesota’s neighbors provide a clear dichotomy of what's happening across our nation.  Voters in North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin recently passed marriage amendment ballot questions, thereby strengthening protection for marriage.  In Iowa and Canada where marriage lacked constitutional protection, marriage statutes have overturned allowing homosexual 'marriage'.

Activists are seeking to legalize homosexual unions in order to force acceptance of their lifestyle by everyone in society and silencing anyone who dares to publically disagree with their agenda.  Just take a look at some of the implications should homosexual unions become legal in Minnesota.

Minnesota could be next to legalize homosexual unions if we fail to act now.  Join us in renewing the call for Minnesota state legislators to let the people of Minnesota vote on the marriage amendment by contacting your elected officials today.
