Petition Congress to Act Now On Energy

The Situation

If you’re like most people, you’re likely struggling to make ends meet with today’s record gas and energy prices. But your pain is apparently of little concern to the majority of Minnesota’s Congressional delegation who recently voted to adjourn session rather than take a vote on the American Energy Act (H.R. 6566). This bill offers a comprehensive approach for addressing America's energy crisis, including domestic drilling, funding for scientific research and common-sense conservation efforts.

Minnesota U.S. Representatives Keith Ellison, Betty McCollum, James Oberstar, Collin Peterson and Tim Walz all voted to skip-town rather than take a vote on the American Energy Act.  While many Minnesota families were forced to forego summer vacations due to high gas prices, these five Minnesota members of Congress decided to take a five-week vacation rather than addressing America’s energy crisis.

This is a crisis created by the politicians.  For decades, liberals in Congress have been advocating higher prices for energy. They want to "save the environment" by punishing Americans for energy consumption. They have enacted policies that prevent domestic drilling for oil, the use of coal and the development of nuclear power. The end result has been America's growing dependence upon foreign oil, much of which comes from our enemies in the Middle East.

President Bush and your Minnesota Congressional delegation needs to hear from you today.  Please sign the petition asking the President to call Congress back to Washington to take an up-or-down vote on the American Energy Act.  Tell your Congressional representatives that you want action, not political posturing, on solving America's energy crisis.
