A national tour featuring decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was scheduled to stop this week at Forest Lake Area High School. But just hours before the event, school administrators abruptly canceled the visit.
Forest Lake High School principal Steve Massey says he canceled the appearance by the Vets for Freedom because he didn't want politics in the classroom. But the truth of the matter is that Mr. Massey succumbed to pressure from radical left wing activists that threatened to stage a protest at the school.
Pete Hegseth, a Forest Lake High grad and the director of Vets for Freedom, said that he had talked with school officials during the planning process, and made clear that presenters would not make political statements. "It's Iraq and Afghan veterans talking about what they saw and what they did there, and about what it means to put on the uniform of your country," he said.
Star Tribune columnist Katherine Kersten said it best in her column this week: “Shame on Forest Lake High administrators for caving to political pressure under the guise of preventing political pressure. Apparently, they only understand the sort of political pressure exerted by left-wing anti-war groups.” It is appalling that high school students are not allowed to hear from the men and women who have risked their lives protect our country because of threats from Left wing protesters.
You can weigh-in on this incident with some of the people involved in the cancellation. Contact Steve Massey, the principal of Forest Lake Area High School, and let him know what you think about his decision to cancel the event. You can also contact Contact Karl Bremer, one of the organizers of the protest threat resulting in the school's cancellation decision.

I wonder where Flake town would be if not for the brave men and women who serve in our wonderful military. If not for the military, you anti-american NEA members would not have the privilage to protest! The members who belong to our armed services work night and day to protect us, and are doing a wonderful job doing what they chose to do. There are no positive thinkers teaching our children. Only doom and gloom people who could never work in the real world. They hide behind the NEA and the liberal radicals that dominate our state. Massey, start looking at the real world, not your make believe cloud in the sky. I'll even bet, that you have never had a job in the private sector. I think it is time you are fired, or taken to the wood shed. Remember Stevie, there is another side to all subjects, quit acting like the typical school teacher that runs to the closest liberal or your socialistic NEA.

It is truly disappointing the a school (particularly one from which one of it's graduates is a member of Vet for Freedom) caved to outside pressure. Gives a unique spin to how the School Board and Administration "Support our Troops"!
The one "nice" thing that has to come out of this fiasco is that no liberal (and hence political) organization will be welcome in the School District -- since if people opposed to their agenda make their feelings known ... and suggest that they might show up to show their displeasure. Remember, it is the childrens' safety that has to be considered. Democracy must be avoided at all cost!!
Speaking of cost, although I do not reside within the boundaries of the Forest Lake School District, I hope that the voters let the Administration know exactly how they feel when the next levy increase is advocated (for what has to be essential services). |

An acquaintance of mine is a Forest Lake school board member, and he offered those interested to come to tonight's meeting and make a statement on the canceled Vets For Freedom visit.
"There has been a huge email campaign going on about the Forest Lake canceling the Hegseth talk. As some of you know, I have a front row seat for this. The first I heard of it was 8:20 Tuesday morning as I was getting to work. Now, my mailbox is overflowing.
Tomorrow evening at 7:00 is the school board meeting and I am sure this topic will come up. I would encourage anybody who would like to come and make a statement be there."
An informal listening session begins at 6:00 pm.

So disappointing to see the ignorance of those with authority. So disappointing how this country is becoming a third world daily. Wondering if the troops are aware the freedoms we are told they are fighting for are being removed by the government that sends them out to fight with their lives? Wondering if our military is being misled as we all know we are. The meeting sounds interesting and if we could afford the gas we would surely go! We love our troops, support out troops and thank our troops!

Minnesota has turned into the San Francisco of the Midwest. Thank you Forest Lake for making national news and embarassing the majority of us again. What say you Tim Walz? I thought you were a Vet and understood. But all I am hearing is your silence. This liberal agenda in Minnesota has ruined and stained our great state!

As a former FL High Alumn I must voice my displeasure for the ignorant and callous actions of those involved with the cancellation of this event. With a cousin who has served 3 tours in Iraq this time around, I can attest to the amazing courage and sacrafice the men and women of the armed services have shown and continue to show each day. To cancel on such notice in itself is rude, but the reasoning behind it is just plain stupidity. As happens in many towns across america, money changes people, buys influence, and creates a sense of power over others. I can only guess that many of the people involved with stopping this event were leveraging their donation power, vote power, etc. to prevent facts from entering into the minds of students who are not being shown the "whole picture." In summation... Damn Liberals!

My husband is a veteran of OIF and IFOR and does not support Vets for Freedom because they are a PAC fund, and have nothing to do with helping Vets. Take a good look at their website before you start throwing out accusations. All Vets for Freedom does is raise funds for politicians, it does nothing, I repeat, NOTHING for Veterans of Minnesota.

"Regardless of whether you believe global warming is a fraud, the fact is that the current depression, the past spike in oil prices, and the coming technology of electric cars are all going to solve whatever problem exists. Liberals want to use climate change as an excuse to take over the economy and regulate everything and this book exposes their plans."
--Dick Morris, FOX News commentator and former political consultant to Bill Clinton
