On Saturday, September 12th, the sun was shining in a late-summer morning, downtown Minneapolis. Thousands of people were lined up outside Target Center, and down 6th Avenue waiting for the doors to open to the President Obama’s health reform rally.
In Washington D. C., the streets were already filling up with demonstrators from all around the country, but the president wouldn’t be there to witness that phenomenon.
Unions and lobbyists and special interest associations bussed people in to Minneapolis from all over for the president’s health care rally. Although the event was free, and billed as non-ticketed open admission on a first-come basis, the members of special groups received tickets affording them advance admission and preferred seating.
Demonstrators on both sides of the debate about the president’s health care plans lined up outside the Target Center. A few people shouted at each other and some supporters of the president’s plan seemed to assume that anyone opposed must be a racist. Accusing words like “Nazi,” “Ku Klux Klanner,” and good old fashioned “racist” were hurled at people protesting the president’s plan as if there was no valid reason to be concerned about the government seeking more control of our health and lives. Despite the occasional such verbal outburst, the tone outside Target Center was civil.
About 14,000 people were eventually corralled into the Target Center and the president delivered a pep talk that was essentially a rerun of his recent address to a joint session of Congress.
Although the venue never filled to capacity, hundreds of protesters chose to remain outside with their signs, telling their side of the debate to passers-by. It was a nice day for a chat about the issues on block E. |

obama says 6 million more people are without health insurance? That's because they've lost their jobs and they've lost their jobs due to government INTERVENTION OBLIGATING NEEDLESS regulations and mandates forcing business to lay off and or close down.
Investigation and government reform necessary. Arrests for treason, and domestic terrorism of corruption of all levels of government necessary..
Don't trust the government anywhere they don't belong. ESPECIALLY OUR PERSONAL PRIVATE HEALTH CARE! If this EVER goes through, what Obama wants obama gets one way or another. OBAMA IS IN VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION. Free markets work. |

The Target Center had over 18,000 people - very near full capacity. There were only 3 dozen protesters, NOT "hundreds". I was there and no one was bussed in!! It is outright lies such as these which are turning off most of the country. I see the rageful and often racist hatred of our president & anything he stands for as the real threat within our borders. I see these uninformed and irrational people as the real terrorists among us. I am appalled but firmly believe that this very small group is in no way typical of the "better angels" in our population. I will never understand why anyone would fight to keep our corrupt & uncontrolled private ins. industry as it is. With 100 million (one third of the population) either underinsured or uninsured and another 40% already ON government medical programs, it makes NO sense to allow private insurance profiteers to continue killing us and driving us into bankruptcy. |

Please explain this "racist hatred" you write about. Please describe the "irrational people" you write about. What corrupt and uncontrolled private industries? Please specify. If what you write about private industry is true, then government hasn't been doing it's job of oversight! Government spending is driving the people into bankruptcy.
Nobody is forced to work and nobody is forced to work where they don't want. Everybody is free to start their own business until government comes in. So, instead of writing reference lines of the left, why don't you open your mind to the truth?! |

| I couldn't make it to the Target Center - I was in Washington DC at the 912 March on Washington that the mainstream media couldn't acknowledge!! There may have been a full house at the Target Center (bussed in or not). But those of us who voluntarily showed up in Washington DC overflowed the city and brought down their transportation grid!! But, according to the mainstream media, we didn't happen! |

I cannot believe this hype!!! I was there and only a couple of dozens of anti-health care reform folks showed up - not "hundreds"!!! Target Center had almost a capacity crowd of over 18,000. Only the very top nose bleed tier was not occupied. How do you people get away with such LIES?????? |

Well, I was one of the 14,000 or so people who popped into the Target Center. As you can see, I taped some of the president's repeat speech. 18,000 is, I believe the Target Center's capacity. There were lots of empty seats in the upper level. I just kind of felt sorry for the people that camped out. There was clearly no need.
Yes. Hundreds of anti-healthcare-takeover demonstrators were outside. I spoke to numerous people on both sides of the debate. |
