House Minority Leader Marty Seifert and Representative Jim Abeler, the ranking minority member of the Health & Human Services Committee, held a press conference this morning unveiling a new proposal for health care reform. The core principles advanced in the proposal included Freedom and Choice; Privacy and Security; and No Government Takeover of Health Care.
"The health care issue is complicated and we must be very clear to avoid any confusion about our values,” said Rep. Abeler. To that end, the legislators said that the press conference would help set the stage for more specific forums on health care in the near future.
Most mainstream news organizations gave scant press coverage of the conference. As such, we decided to provide more information by posting videos of the actual press conference and follow-up interviews with Reps. Seifert and Abeler.
We have extended an invitation to DFL legislative leaders to offer them the opportunity to state their positions on health care.

| Truly, the health care issues are complicated. All aspects of the problem must be addressed in creating any resolution to the health care dilemma facing American. I am tired of paying high taxes, etc. for the likes of government employees and probably you and our other state legislators to have quality health care coverage, while I struggle to cover the ever increasing health insurance costs. In 1999, my family health insurance premium was $602.00. Today 8 years later, that same coverage is $2710.00 per month. If and when, the legislature attempts to solve our Health care crisis. Please contact real Minnesotans - not the Dr.'s, Hospital executives, insurance company executives, etc. who want to keep the status quo. They are feasting on the middle class. An effort must be made to control costs.- but as long as the Health care industry can keep purchasing politicians, it id difficult to believe that real reform will take place!!! |

This is wonderful. we are trying to accomplish the same type of education in New Mexico where we have been presented with 4 different proposals on revamping Health Care. There are many advocates pushing Single Payor without understanding all the facts! Kay of New Mexico, formerlly from Minnesota! |

| What percentage of immigrants carry their whole weight? Seems health care insurance became a problem while immigrants came over in droves. When can we expect them to carry their own weight? While 10 million dollars is pocketed by an immigrant Asian to overturn a foreign government implies they have enough money to budget their lifestyles and we are being taken advantage of. They recently suggested 5 million dollars go to their sole benefit to purchase the hamms brewery. Where does it end in a society that is suppose to treat humanity equally with no recognition of specifying race or culture to the taxpayer? They want to be singled out, they have to spend their own money. |

| health is personal, health care is personal responsibility, health care insurance is a privilege and responsibility. People are free to pay out of their own pocket or people are free to get health care where it is accessed at their choice of employment or whatever. If the government held everyone accountable to the costs of their own personal health instead of making some accountable to pay all, this would have never become a problem to All. But then again the government views the majority of the public as indigent to their own humanity...pretty insulting |
