Rep. McCollum Health Care Town Hall at Macalester
On Monday, Rep. Betty McCollum conducted a public forum on Democrat-led health care reform proposals. The meeting was open to 400 attendees, with priority given to McCollum’s 4th district constituents (IDs were checked - I wonder where McCollum stands on voter ID). About 1,000 people showed up, but an audio feed was set up so people who couldn’t get in were able to listen from outside.
Although President Obama’s organization, Organizing for America was present in force, distributing hundreds of preprinted “Standing Together for Health Insurance Reform” signs that simply read, “Thank You” on the reverse, the majority of McCollum’s local constituents who addressed the meeting with questions or comments were skeptical of the proposed reforms.
Attendees shared their health care stories and offered ideas for reform based on their experiences. Suggestions included decoupling health insurance from employment to alleviate fear of losing coverage when out of work or changing jobs, creating price transparency so health care consumers could quickly find out how much a procedure will cost, allowing health insurance purchases to cross state lines and reducing government coverage mandates to give consumers more options and price points.
Rep. McCollum asserted that there isn’t currently a health care bill. Despite that claim, her constituents quoted passages from HR3200, citing section and page numbers when questioning or commenting on provisions in the bill. McCollum went on to explain that there’s been no rush to pass health care legislation and that only after members of Congress went home for the August recess and heard from their constituents would they begin crafting a health care reform bill. The crowd erupted in expressions of disbelief at that notion. There were few other outbursts. The overall tone of the meeting was very civil.
McCollum explained that in her view, health care is a right and she’d even offered an amendment to the Constitution to enshrine that belief last year. One health care professional thanked her for that belief, but other attendees spoke instead of personal responsibility and getting government out of the way of their health care options.
McCollum presented a stack of what she said were 4,000 petition signatures in favor of the president’s health care proposals. They were submitted via the president’s activist group, Organizing for America (my.barackobama.com), but she made no mention of how many letters and emails she may have received from opponents of the plan.
Take Action: Contact your elected officials today and share your opinions about health care reform.

How extraordinarily weak to show an edited clip. That is pure chicken [profanity deleted]. I suppose you watch "fair and balanced" Fox news as well.
Cowards! |

| We taped almost two hours of the event. YouTube only allows 10 minutes, maximum (note that the video is 10 minutes). Nothing is out of context in this video. Do you think any TV news organization would even run 10 minutes of a meeting like this? 10 seconds is more likely, if anything at all. |

Cowards misconstrue and ignore the truth. Some cowards fear the truth. Other cowards believe in deception. And another kind are those that live by deception and spread it as far as possible to create more cowards.. Cowards believe in double standards.
I heard Betty McCollum wants to donate $1000.00 to remove the truth from congress? Who's $1000,00 is she going to use? Class action law suit to remove MeCollum for defamation and indignation to the people she serves.

That is an awesome video!! I can only imagine it was the applause that had to be edited!!
It would've been interenting to hear the supporters of this deliberate debacle. . Seemed like she doesn't have that many fans.
What a liar, McCollum. . Stop forcing dependency on us. There are plenty of ideas you choose to ignore and then deceive the people. COWARD! |

| I am sick and tired about the obscene profits that insurance and pharmaceutical companies make! Why do we allow them to get rich from our suffering? If those two segments of the economy were made in to real not-for-profits (as opposed to not-for-profit hospitals who make out like bandits) our health care would be much more affordable! |

Insurance is a private industry. If an honest insurance company has many members what is wrong with profit? People aren't sick daily, insurance is a back up to help financially in case you do get sick.
If you don't think government is making obscene profits off of everything government runs, with deception and corruption and nothing productive and with your tax dollar.s, you need to open your eyes and ears and observe and acknowledge all angles. The government is taking away the ability to live independently and be responsible to ourselves. The reason for the increasing expense is due to government CO-OP insurance in this state.
How can anyone believe government can do better for individuals then individuals doing for themselves? The government's definition of the peoples freedom of choice is government mandating choice. GET GOVERNMENT OUT! THEY'RE DANGEROUS! |
