Stop Health Care Bill in its Tracks - Before it's Too Late |

The US Senate is expected to vote on a motion to proceed with their version of the health care bill as soon as Thursday. This procedural motion is the first vote to advance the Senate bill to the floor. It requires 60 votes. Next, it’s open to debate before being placed for final passage. Once on the floor, passage requires only 51 votes. The best opportunity to stop the government takeover of health care is now.
Two procedural motions, each requiring 60 votes stand before the health care bill: The motion to proceed and a cloture vote which is a vote to end debate on the bill. After that, only 51 votes are needed for final passage.
Some Senators may think they can get the bill passed while obscuring their vote for the bill by voting to proceed and voting for cloture but then voting against passing the bill, knowing that it will still pass without their vote. Don’t be fooled. A vote to advance the bill is a vote to pass the bill. Once past the procedural hurdles, final passage is nearly certain.
Take Action: Call Senators Klobuchar and Franken today. There is no time to lose.

New Ad Featuring Ronald Reagan Combats Government Takeover of Healthcare |

Reagan’s prophetic message rings as true today as it did nearly 50 years ago
Today Minnesota Majority released a new radio and internet advertisement featuring excerpts of a talk by Ronald Reagan which was sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1961. The program was used as part of Operation Coffee Cup, a neighbor-to-neighbor campaign that involved people gathering in living rooms across the nation to listen to a LP recording of Ronald Reagan warning of the dangers of a government takeover of healthcare. The record came with other informational materials and instructions on how to write letters to Congress.
“It was like a pre-internet action alert,” said Jeff Davis, president of Minnesota Majority. “Today we have new tools like email and YouTube to get our message out more quickly, but the basic principles are essentially the same,” he said. “It’s amazing to consider that we’ve been fighting against this encroachment by government for nearly five decades.”
The AMA recording, “Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine” was dedicated to the public domain by the AMA. They encouraged the message to be spread by any possible avenues. “The AMA is a completely different organization today,” noted Davis. “They have done a complete flip-flop on this issue, bowing to political pressure from the Obama administration.”
Minnesota Majority has also dedicated our Ronald Reagan Health Care audio/video production to the public domain, making it available to any organization that is interested in using the audio or video with their own brand in other markets. “Since the bill has been passed in the House, we have a limited time to try to stop it in the Senate,” said Davis. A generic version of the advertisement, excluding Minnesota Majority’s branding, is available for download for any organization that wishes to make use of it. [MPG2 video | WAV Audio]
Take Action: Call 1-888-REAGAN-8 to hear a short message about the health care bill and then you will be transfered to the US Capitol switchboard to be connected to your Senators. Ask for either Senator Franken or Senator Klobuchar. Better yet, call twice and talk to both of them.

Thank a Veteran Today |

Veterans Day
We should always be grateful for the men and women who signed up to put themselves in harm’s way in defense of our nation. We don’t always express our gratitude and sometimes, some of us may simply take our security for granted, but there is a price for our freedom and our veterans paid it.
Please take the opportunity of the occasion of Veterans Day to make a call, send a note or email to the veterans you know and tell them you appreciate their service to our nation. And, if you see someone in uniform today, it’s OK to say to them, “thank you for your service.”
Understanding the Holiday
Many people confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day. Both holidays honor military service. Memorial Day used to be known as Decoration Day and it was first established as a day to honor Union veterans of the Civil War. The day was (and still is) marked by visits to cemeteries and placing flowers or other adornments at the graves of veterans.
Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day and it marked the end of WWI, honoring the veterans of that war. In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill to expand Armistice Day to include the honoring of all veterans. Later that year, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day. Ever since, it’s been dedicated as a day to honor all veterans of United States military service.

Health Care Takeover and Cap and Trade |

A One-Two Punch to American Exceptionalism
In a matter of months, or sooner, just 50 people in Washington DC could decide the future of America by a word. “Aye” or “nay.” Two colossal bills establishing unprecedented government control of all energy and health care resources have already passed the House of Representatives (see how your representative voted) and President Obama will sign them. The health care takeover and cap and trade bills have one final hurdle to clear before becoming the law of the land: The US Senate.
These bills must first advance by a motion to proceed and a cloture vote to end debate. Both procedures require 60 votes and represent the best chance to stop these bills in their tracks. If these hurdles are overcome, a simple majority (50 Senators plus Vice President Biden’s vote) is all that’s needed to pass the bills.
Health care now accounts for 1/6 of the entire US economy. Energy’s value is incalculable. Nothing gets made or moves without it. When the government controls a society’s means of production and centrally plans the economy, that is the definition of communism. This isn’t a first step towards communism – it’s two giant leaps into it and it could happen in a matter of weeks if we don’t stop it now.

Special Take Action Message for Senior Citizens:
The American Association of Retired People (AARP) has sold its members out for big profits. AARP got on board with President Obama’s health care plan even though it slashes $500 billion from Medicare and will cut benefits to seniors because AARP will be able to sell Medicare gap (Medigap) coverage to it members, profiting greatly from their loss.
Because of AARP’s endorsement of the health care takeover, thousands of concerned AARP members have cancelled their memberships and policies, ripped up their member cards and mailed them back to AARP.

Near and Far, Young and Old Rally Against Federal Takeover of Health Care |

Representative Michele Bachmann (R–MN–6) called for a march on Washington DC today, terming it a “House Call” on the health care bill. Early estimates put the crowd in DC at 50,000 people protesting against the proposed government takeover of health care in the United States. Not everyone could drop everything on short notice and take a bus to the nation’s Capitol, though so Minnesota Majority organized a Youth Rally against the health care bill at the state Capitol. The event drew a couple hundred people of all ages to the Capitol steps at noon today.
Some parents took their children out of school to attend the event for what they were calling a “real-life civics lesson.” Children, teens and adults showed up carrying home made signs with messages like, “If Obamacare is so great, why is Congress exempt,” “Give me liberty or give me death panels,” and “Choose the Public Option (OR ELSE!),” among other creative expressions opposing the takeover plan.
Talk show host Sue Jeffers emceed the rally that included a recorded message from Rep. Bachmann, speakers Jeff Peil, Jeff Davis, Tom Prichard, Rose Barrett and 13-year-old Hannah Quinn. Quinn first provided her perspective on the universal sanctity of human life and posited that a law that doesn’t respect life - from the unborn to the elderly, without regard for ability - is doomed to fail. She also delivered a message from her state representative, Peggy Scott (R-49A) to the crowd.
A chant of “kill the bill” came up repeatedly during the one-hour rally and it was wrapped up with the crowd singing along to My Country ‘tis of Thee.
“This was a nationwide phenomenon,” said Davis. “While we were at this rally at the state Capitol, other people were bussing to DC and others were visiting their representatives’ local offices. People are taking action. It’s really encouraging,” he said.
Take Action: The health care bill could come to a vote in the House as soon as Friday or Saturday. Call your representative now.

Act Now to Stop the Government Takeover of Health Care |

The federal government is poised to take over our private heath care systems. Despite strong and clear opposition to the plan by the majority of Americans, President Obama and his allies in Congress are pushing ahead with a 2,000 page health care “reform” bill that will do everything they said it wouldn’t and little of what they’ve promised it will.
On Friday, October 30th, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann issued an urgent call to action. She said the House health care reform bill will likely come to a vote on Friday, November 6th. Bachmann is urging all freedom-loving Americans to join her on the steps of the US Capitol in Washington DC on Thursday, November 5 to make a “House Call” on Congress, demanding that they observe the will of the people and reject the federal take over of health care.
Of course, not everyone can just drop everything and hop on a bus to DC in the middle of the week. To ensure that every concerned citizen gets a chance to be heard, a national effort has been organized to rally voters at the local offices of US representatives across the country.
In addition, a youth rally in opposition to the health care takeover will take place on the steps of Minnesota’s Capitol at noon on Thursday. Local talk radio host Sue Jeffers will headline a great bunch of speakers.

Minnesota Non-Profits Band Together to Combat Cap and Trade |

At a press conference this morning, a number of business and interest groups announced the formation of a new coalition to oppose cap-and-trade public policy. The No Cap-and-Trade Coalition says it will kick-off its campaign with a new advertisement and website (NoCapAndTrade.com).
The website includes a petition that visitors can sign to express their opposition to the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill and the United Nation's proposed climate treaty expected to be debated in Copenhagen this December. The group is also bringing a localized educational program to areas of the state, featuring the new global warming documentary film, "Not Evil, Just Wrong."
The coalition's website also includes a campaign to boycott 20 organizations that are supporting cap-and-trade. Companies that are part of the boycott include Starbucks, The Gap, ebay, Levi's and Nike amongst others.
The No Cap-and-Trade Coalition consists of several non-partisan, non-profit organizations who are concerned about the devastating impact a cap-and-trade scheme could have on American families and the faltering US economy. "We need energy to turn things around," explained Linda Runbeck of the Minnesota Free Market institute, "a massive new tax on energy is the last thing we need right now. Cap-and-trade would be destructive to our economy."
At the onset, cap-and-trade is projected to cost the average family over $1,700 per year in new energy costs, growing to over $6,000 per year by 2035. Independent analyses of cap-and-trade proposals project the loss of millions of additional jobs and trillions of dollars out of the nation's GDP. "Cap-and-trade is a huge tax on everything," said Minnesota Majority president Jeff Davis.
Proponents say that cap-and-trade will prevent 1/10th of a degree of warming in 100 years. "That doesn't seem like a very worthwhile investment," said Phil Krinkie, president of the Taxpayer's League of Minnesota. "We'd be making extraordinary sacrifices over unproven, contested theories and even if you buy into carbon-driven global warming, the pay off is insignificant. It's not worth the cost."
Current members of the No Cap-and-Trade Coalition include Associated Builders and Contractors, Freedom Foundation, Minnesota Free Market Institute, Campaign for Liberty, Taxpayer's League of Minnesota, Minnesota Majority and Minnesota Family Council among others. The coalition is open to any organization that supports the mission of defeating cap-and-trade public policy.
Take Action: Visit www.NoCapAndTrade.com to sign the petition, participate in the boycott and find more information.
