Stop Health Care Bill in its Tracks - Before it's Too Late
Dan's Blog By Dan McGrath on 11/18/2009
The US Senate is expected to vote on a motion to proceed with their version of the health care bill as soon as Thursday. This procedural motion is the first vote to advance the Senate bill to the floor. It requires 60 votes. Next, it’s open to debate before being placed for final passage. Once on the floor, passage requires only 51 votes. The best opportunity to stop the government takeover of health care is now.

Two procedural motions, each requiring 60 votes stand before the health care bill: The motion to proceed and a cloture vote which is a vote to end debate on the bill. After that, only 51 votes are needed for final passage.

Some Senators may think they can get the bill passed while obscuring their vote for the bill by voting to proceed and voting for cloture but then voting against passing the bill, knowing that it will still pass without their vote. Don’t be fooled. A vote to advance the bill is a vote to pass the bill. Once past the procedural hurdles, final passage is nearly certain.

Take Action: Call Senators Klobuchar and Franken today. There is no time to lose.

New Ad Featuring Ronald Reagan Combats Government Takeover of Healthcare
Dan's Blog By Dan McGrath on 11/17/2009

Ronald Reagan's 1961 health care message featured in new ad.

Reagan’s prophetic message rings as true today as it did nearly 50 years ago

Today Minnesota Majority released a new radio and internet advertisement featuring excerpts of a talk by Ronald Reagan which was sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1961. The program was used as part of Operation Coffee Cup, a neighbor-to-neighbor campaign that involved people gathering in living rooms across the nation to listen to a LP recording of Ronald Reagan warning of the dangers of a government takeover of healthcare. The record came with other informational materials and instructions on how to write letters to Congress.

“It was like a pre-internet action alert,” said Jeff Davis, president of Minnesota Majority. “Today we have new tools like email and YouTube to get our message out more quickly, but the basic principles are essentially the same,” he said. “It’s amazing to consider that we’ve been fighting against this encroachment by government for nearly five decades.”

The AMA recording, “Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine” was dedicated to the public domain by the AMA. They encouraged the message to be spread by any possible avenues. “The AMA is a completely different organization today,” noted Davis. “They have done a complete flip-flop on this issue, bowing to political pressure from the Obama administration.”

Minnesota Majority has also dedicated our Ronald Reagan Health Care audio/video production to the public domain, making it available to any organization that is interested in using the audio or video with their own brand in other markets.  “Since the bill has been passed in the House, we have a limited time to try to stop it in the Senate,” said Davis.  A generic version of the advertisement, excluding Minnesota Majority’s branding, is available for download for any organization that wishes to make use of it. [MPG2 video | WAV Audio]

Take Action: Call 1-888-REAGAN-8 to hear a short message about the health care bill and then you will be transfered to the US Capitol switchboard to be connected to your Senators. Ask for either Senator Franken or Senator Klobuchar. Better yet, call twice and talk to both of them.

Planned Parenthood MN, ND, SD Takes-In More Money Than Ever
Jeff's Blog By Jeff Davis on 11/16/2009

From MCCL Press Release -- Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota’s 2008 annual report, issued as a poster, shows that Minnesota’s leading abortionist realized record profits and served fewer people last year.

A quick look at the 2008 report versus the 2007 report reveals the following:

• Total revenues rose 10.8% from $24,660,000 in 2007 to $27,328,000 in 2008.
• Total revenues from government funds increased 21% from $4,350,000 to $5,268,000 (the largest annual dollar amount to date).
• Contributions climbed 66.7 % from $5,955,000 to $9,924,000.

While government and individuals’ contributions increased enormously, Planned Parenthood suffered an investment lost on its vast reserves of cash:

• Investment income: - $3,429,000 (loss)

“The money that Planned Parenthood is making is enormous. One can easily see why Planned Parenthood wants abortions covered in all health care reform—it means huge amounts of money for their pockets,” stated Scott Fischbach, executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL).

The report also states that there are now 25 Planned Parenthood “health centers” within Minnesota. While all 25 do not actually perform abortions, all 25 refer pregnant women to the Planned Parenthood abortion center in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood. The 2008 report acknowledges that Planned Parenthood performed 4,792 “safe, legal abortion(s)” in 2008, killing 4,792 innocent unborn children.

“While many people and families are suffering in this tough economy, Planned Parenthood is raking in millions of dollars from the government, from donors and from the sale of abortions performed on women in crisis. It is truly tragic,” concluded Fischbach.

Health Care Takeover and Cap and Trade
Dan's Blog By Dan McGrath on 11/10/2009

A One-Two Punch to American Exceptionalism

In a matter of months, or sooner, just 50 people in Washington DC could decide the future of America by a word. “Aye” or “nay.” Two colossal bills establishing unprecedented government control of all energy and health care resources have already passed the House of Representatives (see how your representative voted) and President Obama will sign them. The health care takeover and cap and trade bills have one final hurdle to clear before becoming the law of the land: The US Senate.

These bills must first advance by a motion to proceed and a cloture vote to end debate. Both procedures require 60 votes and represent the best chance to stop these bills in their tracks. If these hurdles are overcome, a simple majority (50 Senators plus Vice President Biden’s vote) is all that’s needed to pass the bills.

Health care now accounts for 1/6 of the entire US economy. Energy’s value is incalculable. Nothing gets made or moves without it. When the government controls a society’s means of production and centrally plans the economy, that is the definition of communism. This isn’t a first step towards communism – it’s two giant leaps into it and it could happen in a matter of weeks if we don’t stop it now.

Special Take Action Message for Senior Citizens:

The American Association of Retired People (AARP) has sold its members out for big profits. AARP got on board with President Obama’s health care plan even though it slashes $500 billion from Medicare and will cut benefits to seniors because AARP will be able to sell Medicare gap (Medigap) coverage to it members, profiting greatly from their loss.

Because of AARP’s endorsement of the health care takeover, thousands of concerned AARP members have cancelled their memberships and policies, ripped up their member cards and mailed them back to AARP.

The Deadly Toll of Political Correctness
Jeff's Blog By Jeff Davis on 11/8/2009

From SCHotline

Last Thursday an Islamic supremacist shot 38 soldiers and killed 13. More are hurting and may die. This occurred at Fort Hood, Texas, where my son spent most of his enlistment before he went back to college to become an officer. “It could have been Billy,” I thought in horror. I’m sure tens of thousands of parents had the same sinking thought at this horrific news. My heart breaks for those whose children, husbands, fathers and loved ones are lying dead or wounded today.

The President does not want us to jump to conclusions, but the Obama administration has already jumped to one very dangerous conclusion, that they must prevent Americans from speaking the truth, the obvious, plain, TRUTH, that we have just suffered a second major attack on U.S. soil by Islamic terrorists.

Meanwhile, early reports say the FBI is not discussing any link to terrorism. Why not? The link seems obvious and must be investigated, if the FBI still works for the United States.

While relatives of the Ft. Hood murderer are out talking to the media and calling Nidal Malik Hasan a normal, loyal American, the President is giving them room to make their case by telling us to shut-up about alternative characterizations of the Hasan. The line is: he was disturbed, he was harassed. I guess it’s our fault 13 people died at Fort Hood because America is a terrible, racist country and needs correcting as too many schools teach today.

The shooter is sympathetic to terrorists. So why is he still an officer in the U.S. Army? This mystery and related mysteries can be cleared up if one understands political correctness (PC).

This PC culture is not new and it’s not rational, (unless you hate America and all it stands for). Thanks to the major institutions of society, the press, education, most churches, and the U.S. Army, political correctness is deeply embedded in our society. But it has huge costs, this is just the most expensive to date.

Thursday afternoon, the cost was an attack that left 13 dead and 25 wounded American soldiers. On 9/11, terrorists had to steal an airplane to launch their attacks, this time it was much easier for the enemy, he was already inside the Fort, and enjoyed the full support of his U.S. Army chain of command.

How could this have happened? How could a radical Islamist be allowed to stay in our Army, keep his job as a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Hospital, and even counsel wounded warriors returning to the U.S. for rehabilitation?

Our country is at war with Islamic terrorism, but it’s in denial. After 9/11, there was more concern at many colleges that Islamic members of the student body and faculty not be tainted by the horror that had just taken place at the World Trade Center, than there was for the victims. It was amazing and disgusting, but what would one expect who has followed the progress of this wicked doctrine that prevents people from speaking and in some cases, even thinking the truth?

We wring our hands in dismay that perfectly innocent Japanese and German citizens were suspected of disloyalty during World Wars I and II and suffered discrimination. However, it’s worse to utterly fail to protect ourselves and our children from those who will, if they can, kill us, overtake our government, and enslave us, every man, woman and child of us.

Now we’re hearing that the shooter was afraid of harassment for his religious beliefs. This sounds just like the excuses for 9/11. The PC crowd believes that we are guilty of provoking Islamic terrorists because of the Persian Gulf War. We were to blame because we invaded their country, and defiled it by waging war on their fellow Islamists. So what does the Army do? It deliberately recruits Moslems because we are fighting in Moslem countries. Does it have special screening in place to make sure they are loyal to the United States? Of course not, but if they refuse to go to the Middle East, they are exempt from that assignment. PCism doesn’t have to make sense.

Our country is at war with Islamic terrorism and does not want to admit it, actually cannot admit it and political correctness does not allow it to admit the nature of the enemy. War is ugly; it means knowing your enemy and taking defensive as well as offensive actions; but we cannot defend ourselves against Islamc terrorism because we cannot acknowledge what everyone knows to be true, and that is the connection between a particular creed and those who would destroy us. So we let them destroy us.

In short, political correctness is just a way to undermine the hearts and minds of patriotic Americans and its high cost has brought death to the Army volunteers who were trying to protect us. Would that the Army had tried to protect them as well.

Ordinary Americans have been asked to make changes in the way we live our lives in order to accomodate the need for greater security. These changes include watching and reporting the actions of our fellow citizens. The Army too, must make accomodations. It must be more security conscious because terrorists can get inside the Army and have.

Political correctness is a product of the left. Ours is a center-right country. We must rid ourselves of this harmful and tryrannical dogma. Our own institutions should be pro, not anti-American and we must oppose all forms of New Speak and/or mind control. We must have a winning attitude if we are to win the war on terror and most important, we should make the protection of American lives first and foremost.

Near and Far, Young and Old Rally Against Federal Takeover of Health Care
Dan's Blog By Dan McGrath on 11/5/2009
Representative Michele Bachmann (R–MN–6) called for a march on Washington DC today, terming it a “House Call” on the health care bill. Early estimates put the crowd in DC at 50,000 people protesting against the proposed government takeover of health care in the United States. Not everyone could drop everything on short notice and take a bus to the nation’s Capitol, though so Minnesota Majority organized a Youth Rally against the health care bill at the state Capitol. The event drew a couple hundred people of all ages to the Capitol steps at noon today.

Some parents took their children out of school to attend the event for what they were calling a “real-life civics lesson.” Children, teens and adults showed up carrying home made signs with messages like, “If Obamacare is so great, why is Congress exempt,” “Give me liberty or give me death panels,” and “Choose the Public Option (OR ELSE!),” among other creative expressions opposing the takeover plan.

Talk show host Sue Jeffers emceed the rally that included a recorded message from Rep. Bachmann, speakers Jeff Peil, Jeff Davis, Tom Prichard, Rose Barrett and 13-year-old Hannah Quinn. Quinn first provided her perspective on the universal sanctity of human life and posited that a law that doesn’t respect life - from the unborn to the elderly, without regard for ability - is doomed to fail. She also delivered a message from her state representative, Peggy Scott (R-49A) to the crowd.

A chant of “kill the bill” came up repeatedly during the one-hour rally and it was wrapped up with the crowd singing along to My Country ‘tis of Thee.

“This was a nationwide phenomenon,” said Davis. “While we were at this rally at the state Capitol, other people were bussing to DC and others were visiting their representatives’ local offices. People are taking action. It’s really encouraging,” he said.

Take Action: The health care bill could come to a vote in the House as soon as Friday or Saturday. Call your representative now.

New Ad Campaign Targets Congressmen Walz and Peterson
Jeff's Blog By Jeff Davis on 11/4/2009

With just days before what is expected to be a major vote on the health care 'reform' bill, Minnesota Majority has announced the launch of a new radio ad campaign aimed at the constituents of US Representatives Tim Walz (Minnesota’s 1st Congressional district) and Colin Peterson (Minnesota’s 7th Congressional district). The ad warns of the pitfalls of H.R. 3692, the House version of the bill, and encourages concerned citizens to call their member of Congress.

“This may be one of the most important issues in our lifetime,” said Jeff Davis, president of Minnesota Majority. “Government has no business coming between a patient and their doctor.” Minnesota Majority says the bill with raise the cost of insurance, lower the quality of care, reduce patient choices, create billions of dollars in new government spending and put the government in-charge of deciding what treatments will be available to patients. “This bill amounts to a massive government takeover of our health care system,” said Davis. “Our goal is to educate the public and motivate them to contact their members of Congress.”

A generic version of the radio ad is provided in a YouTube video at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIr3-8Eerog. The actual advertisement being aired includes the congressmen's name and telephone numbers.

Founder's Quote of the Week

"I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground that 'all powers not delegated to the United States, by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states or to the people.' To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, not longer susceptible of any definition." --Thomas Jefferson, Opinion on the Constitutionality of a National Bank, 1791
